Anti-Fog Inserts for Action Camera Housings

Anti-Fog Inserts are a vital accessory for any creator using an action camera inside a waterproof housing. Fogging occurs when humid air trapped inside the housing condenses into water vapour or droplets on the inside of the lens cover. This typically happens when a sealed housing is exposed to cooler temperatures, such as when snorkelling, diving, or surfing.

Using inserts help absorb internal moisture to ensure your footage remains crystal clear

When do you need them?

If you are planning a trip to high-humidity regions—such as Coastal Queensland or Fiji—Anti-Fog inserts are almost certainly required. Conversely, dry environments with low humidity, like the Snowy Mountains, rarely suffer from these issues.

Do they work? How effective are anti-fog inserts?
Yes — Anti-fog inserts are treated-fibre desiccant strips (not silica gel, despite what a quick search might suggest) that genuinely absorb the moisture causing fogging.

Pro Tip: Always seal your camera and inserts in the housing in the driest environment possible. If you are in a muggy climate, try sealing the housing in an air-conditioned room to lock out as much humidity as possible before you head out.

Are they re-usable?

Yes — dry them out in the oven (300°F/150°C for 5 minutes) up to 4 times before replacing.

Compatibility & Best Use:

• GoPro: Required for any model that is removed from its housing. Modern "waterproof-out-of-the-box" models (HERO5 through HERO13 and Mission1/Mission1 Pro) do not need them unless you place the camera into an extra Dive Housing (like the GoPro Super-Suit or GoPro Protective Housings).
• DJI & Insta360: While these cameras are waterproof to at least 10m, if you use a Dive or Protective Housing for Scuba or Snorkelling, Anti-Fog inserts should be used.
