When GoPro released their first Action camera in 2004, they created their own mounting system that has been copied and adopted by just about every other Action Camera ever since. GoPro Mounts may be either the original 3-Prong Mount (also known as GoPro ribbon mounts, GoPro fingers or 2-Claw Mounts) or they may be the newer GoPro Quick Release interface (also known as QR Mounts or Buckle Mounts). The original 3-Prong Mount is stronger and more stable, whilst QR mounts are quicker to swap between one mount and another. GoPro-style mounts are widely regarded as the Action Camera industry standard.

GoPro-style mounts can also be utilised by DJI and Insta360 cameras as well as many other lesser-known brand Action Cameras, such as Kogan 4K, Zero X, AKASO, Quinix PixGo, Vivitar, Wolfgang, Cam Go, and more.

However, more recently, DJI and Insta360 released their own proprietary Magnetic Base Mount systems for their individual Action Camera offerings. GoPro has also adopted its own Magnetic Base Mount system with the release of the GoPro HERO13 in 2024.

Pro Tip: Most action cameras will utilise one or more of these types of mounts. It is important to check that you are buying the correct mount for the camera you own. The best way to do this is to filter by the Camera Brand and model.
