Filters - for Action Cameras: GoPro / DJI / Insta360
Action cameras are able to capture some very good quality footage on their own without using any additional filters. However, some situations may benefit from the use of additional Filters. Filters may help take your footage to the next level.
Red Filters:
Red Filters are used for Scuba Diving in Tropical or Bluewater. Below 10 feet of water, the wavelength of red light disappears. The camera's white balance does not account for the loss of red light, and videos turn very blue or green, lacking bright tropical colours. This red filter tricks the camera's 'brain' into capturing vibrant colours the way you see them underwater!
Snorkel Filters:
Snorkel Filters act in a similar way to Red Filters but are less Red, due to the fact that most snorkelling is done in shallow water.
Magenta Filters:
Magenta Filters are designed for colour correction while scuba diving in green water.
Polarisation Filters:
Polariser filters help limit reflections and reduce glare, while enhancing colour saturation for a more vibrant and accurate image. These filters are essential for capturing stunning footage in bright or reflective environments.
When filming outdoors, sunlight reflects off of many different objects: For Example, Snow, Water, Sand, Roads, Trees, windows, buildings and more.. Polariser filters reduce light bouncing off these objects, allowing the camera to capture more detailed and colourful images.
Whether you're shooting in the snow, on a sunny beach, or in a bright cityscape, these filters will help you achieve the perfect shot.
Neutral Density Filters:
The use of ND filters with Action Cameras can reduce the amount of light that enters the camera’s lens, making it easier to get the perfect shot in bright conditions.
There are 2 types of ND Filters
1) Straight ND Filters - ND Filters allow you to reduce the Shutter speed of the camera to cinematic levels while maintaining a lower aperture. In this category.
2) Combination ND/Polariser filters - ND/Polariser filters reduce shutter speed to cinematic levels while maintaining a lower aperture and also reduce glare.
UV Filters:
UV filters primarily serve two main purposes: protecting camera lenses and improving image quality. They block ultraviolet (UV) light, which can cause a bluish haze in images. Additionally, UV filters act as a protective layer for the lens, shielding it from scratches, dust, and moisture
